re:constitution and the RESHUFFLE project at the Institute for European Law at KU Leuven host a keynote by Willem Verrijdt, Judge at the Constitutional Court of Belgium on The Belgian Constitutional Court as a judge of EU Law.
The speech, followed by a discussion, will take place on Thursday, 15 June, at 2.30pm CEST on-site at KU Leuven and online.

Even though the Belgian Constitution limits the Constitutional Court's mission to reviewing the constitutionality of legislation, the Court considers itself to be a judge of EU law. It did extend its competences to an indirect review of legislation against primary and secondary EU law, it applies the full effect logic even in its own procedure, and it upholds a vast preliminary dialogue with the ECJ. The keynote speech aims at illustrating this position, at explaining why the Constitutional Court behaves that way and at exploring some legal consequences for both courts and for the legal order.
The keynote is part of the programme of the Third Fellows' Exchange Meeting in Leuven and Brussels, from 14 to 16 June 2023, that is centred around the topic of Fundamental Rights Protection in the EU.
