The fellows of the re:constitution programme met in mid-February for the second Fellow Meeting in Bucharest. After a few weather-related turbulent journeys, the fellows exchanged views on the development of their projects and had the opportunity to plan joint initiatives.

They also visited the impressive Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, which the president of the Socialist Republic of Romania Nicolae Ceaușescu had built in the 1980s. During a guided tour of Bucharest's city centre with the architect Radu Ponta, the fellows were able to discover the interesting mix of renovated old buildings and communist architecture.

An informative lecture on the state of the rule of law in Romania by Prof. Bogdan Iancu completed the programme. Many fellows then took the opportunity to participate in the following Seminar, in which European experts focused on institutions of judicial independence. In short impulses, the participants gave an insight into the situation in their home countries and discussed common and different approaches to the design of the institutions.

The Fellow Meeting was organised by the re:constitution programme coordination at the Forum Transregionale Studien in close cooperation with the New Europe College in Bucharest.
