re:constitution Alumni & Network Conference

Distance and Convergence: re:constituting Democracy and the Rule of Law in Europe, 8-9 September 2022 in Berlin

re:constitution has been established as a pan-European research and fellowship programme to allow academics and practitioners to address the ongoing rule of law and democratic backsliding in the European Union and the shifting political dynamics in national and European contexts. re:constitution annually awards up to 20 Fellowships for one academic year to early-career scholars and practitioners of law and of neighboring disciplines to pursue a project of their own choice and collaborate with research or practice oriented institutions within the European Union. This conference will bring together all generations of Fellows with partners and friends of the programme in Berlin.

The aim of the conference is twofold: firstly, a discussion in retrospect on the most significant events and developments in the last three years in the fields of democracy and the rule of law within the European Union. The multitude of participants’ perspectives will ensure a rich and thorough debate. Secondly, attendees will detect possible challenges to the founding values of the European Union in the foreseeable future and discuss potential responses to them, particularly in the light of the political tensions aggravated by the unprecedented health and security crises which the EU is facing at the moment.
