The European Rule of Law Conference took place from 15-16 September 2025, bringing together experts, policymakers and practitioners from across Europe for two days of insightful and thought-provoking discussion and exchange on the state, challenges and future of democracy and the rule of law in Europe and beyond. Recurring themes across both days included the erosion and resilience of democratic institutions in the face of rising autocratic tendencies, the challenge of safeguarding rule of law domestically, at the EU and in transregional contexts and the search for effective mechanisms to ensure accountability, transparency and fundamental rights. The conference highlighted the significance of civic engagement, innovative advocacy, interdisciplinary approaches and the crucial role of thorough scholarly research to restore, reinforce and adapt the rule of law to new challenges.
